Relay For LIfe

July 11 & 12 was another busy weekend for the Thornton family. We started the weekend off attending the Relay for Life. Kamden won the swim suit contest for the cutest preschool boy as well as biggest eyes. He was mighty proud of his trophy! The theme for this years Relay was Disney, and Sam's Club (Aaron's work) choose Pirates of the Caribbean. Kamden LOVED this idea. He got to dress as a pirate.
Then it was time for dad's contest. You see Aaron is the three year reigning Relay for Life "queen." Every year he embarrasses his family (not really) and dresses up for this wonderful cause.
See...not attractive! Anyway, we did have fun and Aaron won AGAIN! There was lots to do. Kamden even found him a little friend to take home. Oh yes, and he got his hair colored his favorite color, green!
The Relay for Life is for American Cancer society. This year it had more meaning for us than ever. Both Aaron's dads got diagnosed with cancer this year and are now survivors. But of course we have other family members who have passed away and are also survivors.
It was a long, exciting, and emotional night. We did not stay all night but we stayed well past midnight and we were all exhausted when we got home.
Then on Sunday we slept in late, thankfully, but missed church. We decided to head out to the movies and went to go see Despicable Me. It wasn't bad, but it didn't have any animals so I had to deal with an uninterested Kamden wallering all over me.
Then after the movies we hit up the local aquatic center for a little swim to cool off on such a hot day. This was not the best idea we had, given Kamden was up late the night before and hadn't had a nap yet, but that just made it all the more eventful!
